Sport is the reason many people look at CatchOn TV in the first place. The sports group carries live matches and studio programmes, and it rewards a little preparation. This article covers what to expect and how to set up for match day.

What the sports group holds

The group holds live matches and events from several competitions where the line-up includes them. That can include football, basketball, baseball, hockey and combat sport. Coverage changes, so a competition you follow may appear one season and not the next. Check the group, and the guide, for the fixtures you care about.

Finding a match

Open the sports group and look for the fixture in the programme guide. A special event may appear as a single programme on a channel with an unusual name, so search the guide for the team or event name rather than browsing the whole list.

Match-day checks

  • Test the channel the evening before. Make sure it plays and that the guide shows the event.
  • Check the connection. Use a wired link or the 5 GHz band of your Wi-Fi, and close other traffic.
  • Set the time zone. A wrong offset is the most common reason a match appears to start early.
  • Keep a backup. If the 4K version stutters, switch to Full HD before kick-off.

The best screen for sport

A large television running an Android TV or Google TV device, or a Fire TV Cube, handles live sport well. A phone is fine for a single match on the move, but a bigger screen shows the detail that makes sport enjoyable.

Recording and replays

TiviMate Premium includes recording where the channel allows it. Replays are offered on some channels only, so do not count on a replay of a live match.

The short version

Check the guide, test the channel the evening before, prefer a wired or 5 GHz connection and keep Full HD as a fallback. Our sports group page has the details of each category.
