Some channels and films in CatchOn TV are offered in 4K, the higher resolution that shows more detail on a large screen. Not every channel carries it, and 4K only looks better when the whole chain supports it.
What 4K needs
- A 4K television or a 4K-capable streaming device. An HD screen shows a 4K stream at HD.
- A steady connection of about 35 Mbps or more, measured on the device. A wired connection or 5 GHz Wi-Fi gives the most reliable result.
- The 4K version of the channel or title. Not every channel offers one.
When a 4K stream stutters
If a 4K stream pauses or blurs, switch to the Full HD version of the same channel, where one exists. This is usually a network issue rather than a fault in the service. The buffering checklist lists the checks to make.
Questions about 4K
Is every channel in 4K?
No. Most channels are HD, and 4K appears on a smaller set of channels and events.
Do I need a special plan for 4K?
No. 4K is included where the line-up carries it, with every length.
Does a 4K stream use more data?
Yes. A 4K stream uses noticeably more data than HD, so check your data allowance if your connection is metered.
