Allow the install
Android blocks apps that are not from the Play Store until you allow them. On Android TV and Google TV, open Settings, then Apps, then Security and restrictions, or Special access, and allow installs for Downloader. On a phone, allow installs for the browser you use to download the APK.
Install with Downloader on TV
- Install Downloader from Google Play.
- Open Downloader and type the Downloader code from your activation email: the code in your activation email.
- Download the APK and select Install.
- When the install finishes, open the app and sign in with the activation code.
Install on a phone or tablet
Open the download link from your activation email, the download link in your activation email, in your browser. Download the APK, tap it in your downloads, and allow the install when asked. Sign in as above.
Updating the app
When a new APK is released, install it over the old one. Your sign-in and favourites are kept. If Android says the app conflicts with an older version, uninstall the old one, then install the new one and sign in again.
Questions about Android installs
Is the APK safe to install?
Install it only from the Downloader code or the download link in your activation email. Do not install an APK from another website.
Why does Android say the app is from an unknown source?
Apps outside the Play Store are labelled that way. It is the expected warning for an APK.
Can I install the app on Nvidia Shield?
Yes. The Shield runs Android TV, so it installs the same way.
