Android TV, Google TV and Nvidia Shield are the screens built for CatchOn TV. They run Android, so the app installs from its APK file in the same way on each. This article covers the steps, the permission most people miss and the sign-in.
Choose Downloader or the browser
On a television, the simplest route is Downloader, a free app from Google Play. Install it, open it, and type the Downloader code from your activation email. If you prefer, you can open the download link from the same email in the device’s browser instead.
Allow the install
Android blocks apps from outside the Play Store until you permit them. Open the settings, find the option for installing unknown apps or special access, and allow it for Downloader or the browser you are using. The name of the menu differs a little between manufacturers, so search the settings for “unknown” if you cannot find it.
Install the app
Download the CatchOn TV APK and select Install. When the install finishes, open the app. If Android asks about permissions, allow what the app needs to play video and access the network.
Type your activation code first. Then enter the login details if the app asks. The channel list loads after a moment. Check the programme guide against a channel you know, and set the time zone if the times look wrong.
Nvidia Shield
The Shield runs Android TV, so the steps are the same. A Shield is a strong choice for a living room with a large screen, because it handles HD and 4K channels smoothly when the connection is good.
TiviMate Premium
On Android TV and Google TV, TiviMate installs from Google Play. Sign in with the TiviMate account from My subscription and add your playlist. The TiviMate guide walks through it.
Updates
When a new APK is released, install it over the old one. Your sign-in and favourites stay in place.
The short version
Install Downloader or use the browser, allow the install, add the app with your code, sign in with your activation code and add TiviMate Premium on Android TV or Google TV.
